Viewing NGS Control Stations on a Smartphone

To view NGS control stations on a mobile device with an Android operating system:

  1. On a PC, visit https://metzgerwillard.us/ngscs/ngscs.html and download NGSCS.
  2. Click on Query Setup to initiate a search and follow the instructions for your search type.
  3. Open the Search Results folder, click on Save As, and save the file to your computer.
  4. On a PC, visit http://maps.google.com/maps and click on My Places.
    You may need to use Google Chrome for this step; some browsers will not import to My Places.
  5. Click on Create New Map, Import the file you saved in step 3, and click on Done.
  6. On an Android, select Google Maps, Layers, More Layers, My Places, NGS Control Stations.

To display a datasheet in Google Maps version 5.4.0, refer to Figures 1-3.

  1. Fig. 1: Tap the placemark to display the balloon.
  2. Fig. 1: Tap the placemark name (SKYLINE).
  3. Fig. 2: Tap the PID (CN2979).
  4. Fig. 3: Datasheet is displayed.

All stations may not be displayed on the map. Refer to Figures 1 and 4.

  1. Fig. 1: Tap the list view icon at the lower left corner.
  2. Fig. 4: The list view header shows that placemarks 1-100 of 280 are listed.
  3. Fig. 4: Scroll to the bottom of the list view to load more results.

A smaller radial or rectangular search may be more appropriate than a larger county search.
